    Job Description
    The Administrative Assistant serves as administrative assistant and office manager for The Wetlands Institute. The administrative assistant manages, supervises, plans, coordinates, and directs activities of the Institute’s front office and provides limited administrative services to the Executive Director. The administrative assistant provides direct supervision to part-time, seasonal and volunteer administrative staff positions and provides administrative control over office service activities to ensure the efficient and smooth day-to-day operations of our office. They work as part of a team that includes the Financial Administrative Assistant and Development Manager to ensure integration of visitor services with other facets of Institute operations.

    The Wetlands Institute is a non-profit organization with a mission to preserve, protect and steward coastal and wetland ecosystems through our services in research, conservation and education. We combine public programs and visitation with education for schools and other groups, and maintain an active research and conservation program.

    Requirements: College-degree preferred. 3-5 years of prior administrative experience including in a supervisory capacity. Broad knowledge of office management systems and procedures is critical. Excellent time management skills combined with attention to detail and problem solving skills needed. Proficiency in MS Office products including database entry, querying, and reporting. Knowledge of POS systems strongly favored. Ability to interact comfortably with the public in a professional and courteous manner. Excellent communication skills in written correspondence and in telephone, email, and in-person communications. Must be able and willing to work both independently and as a member of a fast-paced team, and to have an appreciation of the natural world and the Institute mission.

    This is a salaried, exempt position based in Stone Harbor, NJ and will involve occasional evening and weekend work.
