    Event Description:
Greater Cape May Historical Society (GCMHS) – Colonial House Knitters- New Group Welcomes You The Greater Cape May Historical Society and the Colonial House Questers cordially invites you to join us in a new knitting group. Under the direction of Patricia Zackey, a skilled knitter, the group will be meeting at the Convention Hall Atrium on Monday afternoons at 1:00 PM. The schedule is as follows:January 29, Feb 5, 12 & 26, March 5, 12, 19, 26. We have wool available to start your project and to learn basic knitting. Some knitting experience is helpful to start the Cape May Mitten project; please bring size 6-8 needles; wool is donated by JaggerSpun of Springvale, Maine. In colonial days, women gather fiber, carded, spun, and dyed fiber for household cloth. The mitten industry was at one time a thriving industry in Cape May County. It became one of the leading exports. The amount of mittens sold attests to the industriousness of the Cape May women who settled here. The knitted mittens for export were sent to Philadelphia and in turn “[the Cape May women] were made happier by having fine Caps, and ribbons, and the Philadelphians had a supply of warm mittens. In case of inclement weather, please stay safe and knit at home with your new knitting skill. 1730colonialhouse@gmail.com
